The Peach Open Movie Project is a fantastic example of what creative people can accomplish when an open, non-commercial environment, great, freely available tools, and the Internet come together. Supported by the Blender Foundation, an organisation supporting open source animation projects and home of the Blender animation software project, seven extremely talented storytellers and 3D animators convened in Amsterdam to create a new animated short which is simply hilarious: Big Buck Bunny.

Community and foundation financed, without the backing of a big Hollywood studio, the team created a quirky, lovable and beautifully shot film about a big rabbit getting reeeaally angry at a trio of nasty rodents. This is only a short, but imagine what would happen if this type of project, with the right financial backing, took on the challenge to create a full feature length movie? Pixar beware! In our age of free tools, free flow of creative juices and new types of funding models anything is possible.

But now, sit back and enjoy!

By the way, the Peach team is already on to the next challenge: Apricot, a 3D game, made under the same principles as the movie.
